MyJMS is committed to publishing only original scholarship. All submissions are screened for textual similarity, and plagiarism in any form is treated as serious research misconduct.

Screening Process

Every manuscript is screened for similarity before it is sent for peer review, and again before final acceptance. Editors review the similarity report in context — a high score is not automatically misconduct, and a low score does not guarantee originality. Editorial judgement is applied to distinguish legitimate overlap (method descriptions, standard terminology, properly cited quotations) from genuine plagiarism.

What Counts as Plagiarism

• Direct plagiarism — copying text word-for-word without quotation marks and attribution.
• Mosaic / paraphrasing plagiarism — rewording others' work without credit.
• Self-plagiarism — reusing substantial portions of your own previously published work without disclosure and citation.
• Data plagiarism — presenting others' data, figures, or results as your own.
• Duplicate submission — submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time.

How to Avoid It

• Use quotation marks for direct quotes and cite the source.
• Paraphrase in your own words and still cite the original.
• Cite your own earlier work whenever you build on it.
• Obtain permission and attribute any reproduced figures or tables.
• Reference every source using APA 7th edition.

Reporting Concerns

Readers who suspect plagiarism in a published MyJMS article may write to the Editor-in-Chief, citing the article and the grounds for concern. All reports are handled confidentially and investigated in line with COPE procedures.
